The Problem: Trivia buffs across New York City faced a frustrating challenge: finding up-to-date, comprehensive information on trivia nights throughout the city. Existing listings were often incomplete, outdated, or scattered across unreliable sources. This made planning a fun night out with friends a scavenger hunt rather than a simple search.
The Solution:
I created NYC Trivia List to centralize and streamline the process of finding the perfect trivia night. Here's how it addresses the problem:
- Robust Backend: The site runs on Next.js for reliable performance, integrated with Sanity CMS for straightforward content management. This lets me efficiently add, update, or remove venues – keeping the information fresh.
- Focus on User Experience: TailwindCSS ensures a stylish, responsive design tailored to finding trivia quickly. Day, borough, and neighborhood filters alongside an interactive Leaflet map help users pinpoint their ideal trivia spot in just a few clicks.
- Automated Updates: Custom Python cron jobs proactively crawl trivia hosts' websites, seeking changes to schedules and venues. This minimizes manual upkeep and helps ensure accuracy.
- Community Driven: A contact form enables site visitors to submit corrections and suggest new venues, fostering a sense of participation and making the list even more comprehensive.
Technical Highlights
- Next.js Expertise: Skillfully employed Next.js to deliver a fast, SEO-friendly, and easily maintainable web application.
- CMS Integration: Demonstrated fluency in integrating Sanity CMS, empowering non-technical users to manage the site's core content.
- Mapping Solutions: Seamlessly incorporated Leaflet for interactive map displays, aiding in the visual discovery of trivia locations.
- Proactive Automation: Showed initiative using Python cron jobs to reduce manual tasks and ensure information stays reliable.
Project Impact: NYC Trivia List makes it a breeze for New Yorkers to find fun, brain-tickling trivia nights across the city. It saves trivia enthusiasts time, encourages exploration of diverse neighborhoods, and strengthens NYC's trivia community.
